Emergency Evacuation Drills
The Office of Environmental Health and Safety performs emergency evacuation drills regularly for all buildings, residence halls, and clinics on campus. The performance of faculty, staff, and students in each building will be evaluated as outlined in their Emergency Evacuation Plan and Emergency Action Plan. Departments and clinics will receive an evaluation memo outlining the performance of building occupants and any corrective actions that need to be taken.
Emergency Evacuation Plans must be completed by every department and clinic on campus and revised annually. These plans are included in the department’s Emergency Action Plan. Once the plan is complete, the department or clinic must train all faculty, staff, physicians, nurses, and volunteers so that everyone understands their role and responsibilities in an evacuation. The Office of Environmental Health and Safety recommends that departments start an Emergency Action Plan first and then develop an Emergency Evacuation Plan. Please visit the Emergency Action Plan page to learn how to start this process.
Both Emergency Evacuation Plans and Emergency Action Plans training are required by OSHA, NC Fire Code and various accreditation agencies. The evaluation memo will meet the requirements of a wide variety of accreditation agencies.
