Chemical Hygiene

The ECU Chemical Hygiene and Lab Safety Programs are dedicated to keeping chemical users’ safety a priority. The plan follows all OSHA regulatory requirements as well as laboratory best practices. EH&S Lab Safety Team is responsible for the identification and regulation of potential health and physical hazards in areas storing as well as using chemicals, ensuring specific training requirements are met, and for university and departmental hazard communication plans. Major aspects include: maintaining an inventory of chemicals in each respective location, monitoring and managing chemical and hazardous wastes, review of grants for Principal Investigators to ensure appropriate controls are in place, and defining a standard for laboratory safety plans and SOPs.
