Chemical and Hazardous Waste
The Office of Environmental Health and Safety is responsible for the collection and disposal of hazardous chemical wastes. This page provides information on Chemical and Hazardous Waste Policies, what is hazardous and pick-up information.
Please schedule pick-ups via e-mail by filling out the Chemical and Hazardous Waste Pickup Request Form below and sending it to us at safety@ecu.edu. Hazardous waste tags should be completed by the responsible party and secured to the closed and properly stored container. If there are any questions, please give us a call at 328-6166.

- Waste Minimization
Investigators should develop waste minimization practices within their laboratories. The American Chemical Society has published a booklet – “Less is Better” which serves as a starting point for waste minimization practices. It is suggested that this booklet be reviewed as experiments or procedures are designed or conducted.
The Office of Environmental Health and Safety is also responsible for the RECY-CHEM Program. The RECY-CHEM Program takes unused, and unneeded chemicals from labs and distributes them to other ECU programs FREE of charge.
